can I remove an negative item from my credit report?

ok I am aware you can dispute negative items that appear on your credit report. And there is a lot of law firms and businesses out there who claim they can remove negative items from your credit report. But here is my issue. I have a card I was 120 days late on a few years back and I've disputed it a few times but its only been taken off temporarily to be verified on a put back on my credit report. I was with Lexingtonlaw a year back and it was just a endless cycle of disputing items on my report. The credit card companies just kept on responding with "That item has already been verified" so in the end, really none of my negative acconut statuses improved. Can you really get rid of a negative item on your credit report even if its partially true? Is the whole credit repair business just a sham because its just doing you a service that you can do just as easily yourself for free?

  1. Yes, let them know, so they can remove it from your credit report..
  2. accurate factual information will stay on your credit report for a period of 7 years...bankruptcy 10 years. One can do NOTHING to remove factual negative items from your credit report A quick boost to your credit report....ALWAYS pay your bills on time...never ever be late -- not even one day
  3. Nothing can be removed from your credit file that is true period. Only time 7-years in your case from the last reported date. There is no reason to pay people to remove things from your credit, you can do this yourself for the cost of a postage stamp if the items are false. As far as credit repair, they are scams the 2007 edition of Consumer Action Handbook published bu the Government says so.
  4. I love it when you close with the TRUE answer to the very question you pose. Yes, the credit repair companies are all a sham because they do what you can do yourself FOR FREE. Now, sometimes people don't know HOW to dispute negative credit items FOR FREE, so they are willing to pay somebody to do it for them. However, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, if the trade line is valid and negative -- that mugg is staying on your credit report for seven years. There may be the "once in blue moon" chance that you get "one over" over the credit bureau, but I would say you would be batting 1 in a 1000! Do it yourself and save your money.
