Repair Credit Report Help

Credit Repair?

How long does a negative credit history stay on your credit report? I live in New York. Also, when collection agencies report to the credit bureaus every month, does that prolong the length of time that delinquency stays on your report? For example, an account has a "last reported" date of 03/2008 but the last payment was made in 2002, does the 2008 date prolong that negative report to be deleted from the credit report?

However, I know from personal experience they do not always remove the information 7 years after the account has been charged off, so keep up with your credit and make sure the original and the collection agencies are removed seven years from the charge off date. Also in New York the SOL is 6 years,
  2. Typically 7 years. Here is a good article to explain how long certain negative marks on your credit report stay on your credit report. http://www.creditscorequick.com/2008/03/how-long-does-collections-stay-on.html
  3. Unethical collection agencies and creditors sometimes attempt to "re-age" the debt, meaning they fraudulently claim to the credit reporting bureau that the debt is new, in order to keep it on the credit report and/or to try to "extend" the statute of limitations - both of which are illegal under the FDCPA.

  5. The date account was last reported has no significance what so ever. Negatives credit will fall off your report when the 7-1/2 years are up from the date of first delinquency.
