Should I dispute my credit report?

I recently checked my credit report and noticed that (on all three), my boss' business account is listed on which I am an authorized user. The reports list it as carrying a balance of $5000, and my boss' home address is even listed as one of my previous addresses (which is obviously not accurate). However, I never saw an application, never see a statement, and have no control over making payments or adding charges. Should I dispute this account being listed on my report and affecting my credit rating?

  1. I would. The account has nothing to do with you personally.
  2. Yes have it resolved. If anything were to happen and for some reason there was a negative report on that account your credit would be affected too.
  3. Definately!! If you truely are only an authorized user, that basically means that you can use it but it does not show on your credit. Obviously, that $5000 balance is doing something to your credit score as well and since you aren't on the account as an owner, it should be taken off immediately. Hope this helps some.
  4. First, ask you boss about the account. It appears that s/he included you as an authorized user. Many corporations issue corporate cards to their employees. Let your boss know that you would rather not have your name on the account. Then write a letter to the credit card company asking that they remove your name from the account. Ask them to send you and the credit reporting bureaus a confirmation letter that your name has been removed. The credit card company is the one to contact, not the bureaus.
