Repair Credit Report Help

I owe a university 2,000 dollars. Can I dispute that on my credit report?

I went back in august 2006 and I left after a month. If I can't dispute it, how long does it stay on my credit report because there is no way I am paying for that.

  1. If the item is legit, disputing it will get you nowhere, it will remain on your report for the next 7-10 years.
  2. 7 to 10 years before it will go away assuming they dont sue you by then. If you feel you dont owe the money get 2000.00 and hire a lawyer. And that's cheap for a lawyer
  3. you can contact the university and set up a payment program because you technically used campus services. If you do not pay they will forward your information to a collection agency that can hold state tax refunds until the debt is covered, but you credit will be affected for up to 7 years
  4. I'm pretty sure you can dispute it although you do need to talk with the financial office if you haven't already. When you drop classes they give you the money back before whatever date it says you can get the full amount. After a certain date though, you actually have to pay to drop the classes. You need documentation that you did drop the classes also.
  5. We had this issue as well. But you need to un-enroll properly. I'm assuming you didn't do that. You might call the university and talk with them and let them know you did not attend classes for that semester. They may give you a break. We were able to fight it and get the amount taken off. Be professional about it. It might even be better to write them a letter too. Give them valid reasons why you don't owe the money, why you left etc. If you have papers when you un-enrolled you'll need those as proof as well. Good luck!
