How can if fix my bad credit?
I have been told that once I have paid off a debt from a collection agency, I should call them and request they take my collection record off my credit report. Any truth to this? Can they take it off my report or does it just remain on my report as "paid."?

- Ugh... you should have worked it out with them BEFORE you paid it. You request it through them and get it in writing that they will remove it before you send them money. Usually, they'll do so in order to get you to pay. You can call them and ask, but I doubt if they will do so. Collection agencies try to run as cheaply as possible, and probably won't spend the time/money doing this for you. Making phone calls costs them money. If you paid it in full, it will show as "paid", which is a little better than settling for less than the full amount.
- There are some great tips here: http://fixingyourcredit.blogspot.com ___________
- This is a pretty good article on repairing your credit file and credit score
- is possible to remove late payment notations from your credit score by disputing them. If the lender does not validate the late payments within 30 days, they will be dropped from your report. However, if the lender re-reports the late payments, if you have no proof that you actually paid on time, they will stay on your report. If you continually dispute valid notations, you can be found to disputing 'frivolously' and your future disputes may be ignored, so don't dispute more than once if you really were late. ----------------------------------------- http://www.loansandinsurances.com/
