  1. It's not true. What they do is to dispute all the negative items. By law, the credit agencies cannot report items in dispute. But once the dispute is resolved and the debts are validated, they are once again back on your credit report. The credit repair agencies can make your credit look good TEMPORARILY, but they are doing nothing to actually repair your credit. If you need credit counseling, see the link below. Do NOT give these scam artists your money.
  2. NO! This is not true. NOTHING IS EVER DELETED FROM YOUR CREDIT REPORT UNLESS IT IS AN ERROR! If a credit repair agency advertises this, they are lying and should be avoided at all costs. They can help you consolidate your debt and can work as an intermediary between you and creditors to help you come to an agreement with the creditor on a payment plan. If you are in a large amount of debt. consult a reputable credit agency from the Better Business Bureau. If you are not yet in major trouble, try consolodating your debt and contacting the creditors and working with them. They may help you out with a longer payment window or a lower interest rate. Try to talk to them before they contact collection agencies. Good Luck.
  3. False!!!!! They only counsel you on how to fix you're credit. You have to do the footwork yourself. Don't do it unless you got money to burn. Here's a good site that will get you started with repairing your credit yourself. http://www.creditreport.com For a small fee you get to see you're credit reports and scores from all three agency's (don't get the monitoring, they charge you for it but you should call them and ask it to be credited back to you. It' s a waste) and then you can assess what's factual and non-factual in the report and ask them to place disputes with the credit agencies at no additional cost. Once you place the disputes with them, you wait until they send you the results (usually within 2-3 weeks after you dispute) in the mail. If you have a dispute that they can't resolve, then contact the credit agency directly. They'll give you the number. Most importantly, the only way to repair your credit is to change your behavior. Develop discipline, use only cash, get rid of all your credit cards and as a last resort file bankruptcy (though it's much, much harder now due to the new bankruptcy guidelines.
  4. These companies do NOT stop reporting to the Credit Reporting Agencies. I have worked for over 12 years in the Credit field and specifically worked for a Mtg. Credit Reporting agency and Yes, these kind of places can help you resolve issues and get lower rates with different CC companies because of deals they make, but that is ONLY on the "deals" side of things. They will continue to report you late wether you have a deal or not.
  5. The company I work for gets people into homes everyday where previously they would have been unable to - due to credit score. I see it happen with my clients all the time. Don't believe all the dribble you hear about the 'useless' credit repair companies. We are more effective than 'joe' consumer at cleaning up credit - MUCH more effective. Just be very selective about which company you choose. But most of the posters got one thing right - credit repair companies do NOT remove items from credit reports. Only the CRA's can do that. It is done by the credit repair company or consumer preparing a letter of dispute and sending it off to the appropriate CRA's. Then the burden of proving the accuracy falls on the shoulders of the CRA's, who in turn, put the burden on the creditor. This must happen within 30 days or it has to be removed according to the FCRA. Good luck, whatever you do!
  6. well, generally what happens is credit repair agencies use a dispute process that gives your creditor a certain time frame to respond or confirm debt on your credit file. Some credit repair guys will keep writing the letters to overwhelm the credit bureaus or creditors. if they don't respond or confirm this in a specific time frame the debt will be deleted by the credit bureaus off your credit file, which in some cases works. they also write threatening letters to the credit bureaus to strike fear in their hearts about your rights as a creditor and about certain rights allowed to you in which the credit bureaus must notify you about any debt being placed on your file. because this is a seemingly impossible task for the credit bureaus to contact everyone about every specific item on their credit, they demand it be taken off. however, you don't have to pay a credit repair agency to do this, their is totally free very informative information about how you can do this yourself from contacting credit bureaus to letter writings at: http://bdcd.blogspot.com/
  7. Anyone that tells you that credit cannot be fixed is misinformed. I have done it myself and so have many people that I know. I bought the credit secrets bible and it has absolutely helped me fix my credit. I got it because there was a money back guarantee but I never sent the book back because it worked.
  8. I own a credit restoration company and YES we delete bad items from credit reports everyday! Our track record is unbelieveable! I must say you have to watch out for people who flat out say, "we can delete ALL negative information". Not true! Our job is to give you in-depth credit repair. Most people are not aware of the credit laws in place to protect their credit file. Are you aware of Section 609? This states the company MUST provide documentation of the item they are reporting to YOU or the file must be deleted. How about the credit reporting agency? What type of paper do they have on file? Why are they verifying documents you have not received from the credit furnisher? Why are they re-inserting items removed without notifying you in writing? What about the collection agencies? Why are they not sending you proof of holding this debt? Why are they still verifying and contacting you after they've been sent a DV or ITS? Are they licensed and bonded in their respective states? If not, why are they breaking the laws and reporting your account? As you can see they are several ways to correct your credit file and just an average Joe would probably have a hard time and possibly not have the time at all to do this. My company strives to make sure our clients understand their credit and the future of it. We deal with lots of real estate professionals and close all of deals! Our customers are always happy and most of our business comes from referrals! We are on BBB and registered in the state of IN
